Earlier in the year, Christian Brauner of Microsoft (Maintainer of VFS), spoke up about his which to remove hfs from the kernel as it was orphaned since 2014 (Mastodon: https://mastodon.social/@brauner/114341096129808573)

Since then, some devs took up the task of maintaining the FS and are bringing very needed fix to the FS.[1]

As we talked last release, HFS was picked up by some new maintainer. we still have more fixes.[2]

6.19

Last 2 releases have been good for HFS, This one is no different. We have corruption fixes, clean-ups and more internal tests. HFS is alive and well.[3]
